DHH: SGA, Kellstadt Marketing Group, and NAHJ

On February 12, 2021, representatives from the Student Government Association, Kellstadt Marketing Group, and the National Association for Hispanic Journalists spoke about their organizations on the DePaul Half Hour.

Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization that consists of 25-30 political officers. Each member focuses on various initiatives to help represent the different populations at DePaul and the overall DePaul community. Some examples of this include Senator for Commuter Students and Senator for 1st Year Students, who focus on their respective communities and help make changes to benefit them. The higher ranked members tend to focus on the student body as a whole, tackling and managing multiple initiatives as opposed to just one topic. SGA’s current initiatives include adjusting the application process to include a middle eastern category and updating the hate speech policies at DePaul. In the past they have hosted college and career workshops and multicultural town halls. In light of the pandemic, they have taken steps to support the student body with weekly live-streamed mental health talks and discussions. They hold meetings every Thursday at 6pm CST and anyone in the student body is welcome to attend and participate in the discussions. You can find all of their meetings links, notes, and event information on DeHub. You can also contact them on Instagram and Facebook.

Kellstadt Marketing Group (KMG) is in its 13th year at DePaul and they strive to develop professionals in marketing and business and act as a hub for networking and career development. They host a variety of events every year including case competitions, speakership panels, and networking sessions to connect members to alumni. Their largest event, Symposium, is held in April and is a full day business conference where leaders and business experts will cover topics on technology, marketing, innovation, and more. This year their events have been conducted via Zoom. KMG’s main focus for this year is to increase the value of the organization to its members and expand on their networking and marketing services. KMG is open for anyone to participate, but their events are geared towards graduate students who are studying business and marketing. You can learn more about KMG on their website, Instagram, and Linkedin.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) chapter at DePaul was established last year and emphasizes networking in the communications field, especially between Hispanic journalists and reporters at DePaul. They host virtual meetings over Zoom and have held resume workshops, headshot workshops, and public newsrooms. NAHJ welcomes anyone and everyone who is interested to come to their meetings. This year they are aiming to expand their engagement and plan events with suggestions from their members so that everyone can get the most out of their time at NAHJ. You can find them on DeHub, Twitter and you can also request to be put on their newsletter.
