DHH: DePaul TV Incubator, The Animation Lodge, and the Bateman Class

On February 19, 2021, representatives from the Animation Lodge, DePaul TV Incubator, and the Bateman Class spoke about their organizations on the DePaul Half Hour.

DePaul TV Incubator (DTVI) is a student run production group that specializes in making web series and television content. They develop shows from beginning to end, inviting members to participate in all aspects of filmmaking, including pitching processes, writer’s rooms, development, screenwriting, production, and post-production. Their longest running series is called Chicago Lines, a documentary web-series that showcases the people, places, and organizations that make Chicago what it is. Currently they have four productions in the works: a psychological horror anthology series called Diner on Fifth and Nowhere, a podcast discussing wacky hypotheticals called Midnight Pancakes, a comedy show about dorm life called Campus Security, and an animated comedy/adventure about an intergalactic package-delivery squid and his space gremlin sidekick called Space Squid. They have a lot of opportunities to get involved in all aspects of the filmmaking process, but especially when it comes to writing and pre-production. They hold meetings every Friday from 2:00-4:00pm CST via Zoom. You can find examples of their work on Youtube, contact them through Instagram, Facebook, email (depaul.tv.incubator@gmail.com), and by joining their Discord.

The Animation Lodge is a student run club for animation students and animation enthusiasts. It is a place to learn new art and animation techniques, get helpful critiques, and network with students from all skill levels and backgrounds. Students can learn about different career opportunities, get help and recommendations about classes from peers, and see what kind of projects different members of the community are working on. They also host social events where students can watch movies, play video games, discuss shows, hang out, and simply have a good time. They have a Sketchbook Club that meets every other week where participants spend time chatting with one another while working on drawing projects. They have plans to host larger events, such as virtual figure drawing sessions led by DePaul professors and a Lodge coloring book. The Animation Lodge holds meetings every week via Discord. You can find their Discord link on DeHub, and contact them through Facebook, Instagram, and their email (theanimationlodge@gmail.com).

The Bateman Class is a competitive public relations class at DePaul that competes against other universities to create the most successful campaign based on a yearly topic announced by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The class runs two quarters, the first quarter being dedicated to the research and strategy of the campaign and the second dedicated to implementation. To be considered for enrollment, students must first send in an application and resume for review. Last year, the Bateman Class won the national competition, where they were asked to create a campaign around the US Census and getting people to participate in it. This year, the Batman Class’s campaign is called Talk Civil to Me, where they are tackling and informing the DePaul community and the greater Chicago area on how to engage in civil discourse. They partnered with the Office of Diversity and Equity to host a two-part speaker series called How to Be an Anti-Racist. At this event they educated their audience on actively trying to be anti-racist and trying to deal with people who are racist, homophobic and of the like. At their second event, Civil-T, with the Delta Gamma chapter at DePaul, the Bateman Class presented their research and held open group conversations where they discussed how to hold civil and hard conversations in a productive manner. They are aiming to engage with their audience on a personal level through social media and spread the word about civil discourse to a wider range of people in the community. To learn more about future events, giveaways, and how to get involved in Talk Civil to Me, reach out to them on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and their website.

About: The DePaul Half Hour is a show that interviews organizations in and around DePaul and we have them discuss what they can do for DePaul students as well as what they can do for the surrounding community. Every week, up to three organizations come onto the show and share their upcoming events, how one can get involved, how to get in touch, and much more. Tune in every Friday from 12:30pm to 1:00pm to be the first to listen to these shows on radiodepaul.com. If you and your organization are interested in coming on, contact radiodepaulonair@gmail.com for more information.
