DLO3’s inspiration and development

In this episode of Feel The Vibes, Daniel had the opportunity to interview Delvon Lamarr, who is the face of the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio.

The DLO3 Trio’s humble beginnings started in May 2015. They have released two Billboard- charting albums and a 45; toured nationally and internationally, and performed live at Upstream Music Festival, broadcast by KEXP, that garnered over 7 million views.

DLO3 is nothing short of “feel good music”, gathering inspiration from 1960’s organ jazz stylings of Jimmy Smith and Baby Face Willette; a pinch of the snappy soul strut of Booker T. & The M.G.’s and The Meters; and sprinkles Motown, Stax Records, blues, and cosmic Jimi Hendrix-style guitar.

The band features organist Delvon Lamarr, a self-taught virtuosic musician, with perfect pitch who taught himself jazz and has effortlessly been able to play a multitude of instruments. On guitar is the dynamo Jimmy James who eases through Steve Cropper-style chanking guitar, volcanic acid-rock freak-out lead playing, and slinky Grant Green-style jazz. From Reno, Nevada is drummer Dan Weiss (also of the powerhouse soul and funk collective The Sextones). Dan’s smoldering pocket-groove drumming locks in the trio’s explosive chemistry.

The episode highlights the inspiration, development and what is currently happening with the trio. Their new album “I Told You So,” is a state to people who did not believe that their sound would not be accepted but through hard work and dedication the trio hit the Billboard charts and have toured all over the world.

The single for the album “Aces” is the awakening tone that gets you in the groove for the album. The Funk soul-jazz vibes lets you forget about your worries and cares, letting your heart and head move to the rhythm.
