DHH: DePaul Residence Hall Council, Phi Sigma Pi, and Beating the Block

On April 9, 2021, representatives from, DePaul Residence Hall Council, Phi Sigma Pi, and Beating the Block spoke about their organizations on the DePaul Half Hour.

DePaul Residence Hall Council (DePaul RHC) is an organization dedicated to making on-campus living students’ “home away from home.” Their campus-wide community events have included ugly sweater decorating and a mocktails and painting party. Jeopardy nights, gift bag drop-offs, and organizing community hours have been part of their dorm specific events. They are currently planning a virtual concert and will have more information once the details are set. DePaul RHC also has committees designed to represent specific communities and make sure that everyone feels safe and welcome on campus. They are hosting elections this month, so if you are interested in applying or reaching out to learn more about the organization, you can contact them through DeHub, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and at their email (depaulrhc@gmail.com).

Phi Sigma Pi is an inclusive undergraduate co-ed fraternity that is based on the three pillars of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership. In the past they have hosted a Mario game night and gone out on retreats that help members build leadership and fellowship skills. Some of their more recent events include muder mystery nights, 24-hour community events that involve story-telling and gaming, and an alumni jeopardy night. They have also hosted fundraising and service events to support DePaul students. Students interested in joining need a 3.0 or higher GPA, be in the undergraduate program, have attended at least one term at DePaul, and have at least one term remaining before graduation. Students will also need to pay quarterly dues. Phi Sigma Pi has mandatory weekly chapter nights where members will be able to get to know one another more personally and get updated on fraternity matters. To learn more, you can reach out to them on Instagram, Facebook, at Dilpreet Kaur’s email (dkaur1@depaul.edu).

Beating the Block is a screenplay workshopping club for aspiring screenwriters and screenwriting enthusiasts. Members will be able to get feedback on their scripts and connect with other filmmakers. All experience levels are welcome to join, and if a student is just starting out, Beating the Block will teach them the art of screenwriting from the bottom up. Beating the Block also hosts casual events where members can mingle and spend time with one another in a relaxed setting. You can find them on DeHub, Instagram, and you can reach out to their current president, Jon Knecht (knechtjc@gmail.com), who will be able to add you to their Facebook group and their Discord server once it is ready to accept invites.
