On January 29th, 2021, representatives from The Impact Project, the DePaul Doctor Who Club, and Blue Demon Theatre spoke about their organizations on the DePaul Half Hour.
The Impact Project is a non-profit organization founded and run by DePaul Alum, Ally Pruit, with a mission statement to impact the lives of youth in underserved communities by providing resources, mentorship, and guidance. They have co-hosted a Book Bag Drive with Illinois elected officials, distributing over 1,000 book bags filled with supplies to youths in need. They are currently running Success Sessions, which are free Zoom sessions for 1L and pre-law students hosted on a bi-weekly basis. This semester, they brought on guest speakers to discuss a variety of topics for first-generation law students including networking 101, best practices for final examinations, study tips, resume advice, and more. In early 2021, they are launching the Blueprint Series, which is a visual podcast introducing different professions to their listeners. Some guests will include an Illinois Supreme Court Justice, Northwestern Hospital’s chief anesthesiologist, a world renowned barber, a mechanic, a professional athlete, a real estate professional and more. You can find The Impact Project on Instagram and on their website where you can learn more about their mission, upcoming events, and ways you can get involved.
The DePaul Doctor Who Club is the best place to find your fellow DePaul Whovians. Since social-distancing practices went into place, the DePaul Doctor Who Club has been meeting weekly online via Zoom where they watch the show together, talk with one another, and continue to foster a sense of community and passion around the series. Whether you have watched all the seasons of Doctor Who or are just starting out, the DePaul Doctor Who Club invites everyone and anyone to become a part of their community. They also host game nights on their Discord for those who are interested. You can reach out to them on Twitter, Facebook, and through their faculty advisor Paul Booth’s email at pbooth81@gmail.com.
Blue Demon Theatre is a student organization that supports and inspires students to involve themselves in all aspects of theatre. They invite students from all walks of life and any experience level in theatre and performing arts to join and participate in their productions. Some of their works include trivial nights, cabaret performances, guest speakers, playwriting opportunities, original works, ten-minute play performances, two-act play performances, and full on musical productions. The remote setting isn’t slowing them down as they have adapted many of their shows into an online format. This includes a Valentine’s cabaret, Shakespeare rewritten festival, and a musical at the end of May to name a few. They are in need of actors, playwrights, directors, and crew members to fill the behind-the-stage roles for their expanding workload. You can learn more about Blue Demon Theatre at their monthly general-body meetings, on their Instagram, Facebook, and Dehub, and you can view their performances on their website.
