On April 23, 2021, DePaul Tepeyac, Jordan Rivers, and The Courier Thirteen Podcast spoke about their organizations on the DePaul Half Hour.
Tepeyac is an organization dedicated to serving Latinx students at DePaul University. The organization was first created in 2009 by Fr. Guillermo Campuzano where Latinx students would be able to reflect on their faith and culture. Since then, the organization has grown to hosting numerous events in order to create a sense of community for DePaul students. Cafecito con Tepeyac is hosted via Zoom on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00pm CST where a new topic is discussed each week. Topics pertain to Tepeyac’s pillars of faith, culture, and service and have included discussions about machismo, colorism, and solidarity in Latinx culture. Every Spring ,they host Somos, a Latinx art festival where students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to represent their latin culture through art. You can find out more about Tepeyac’s events on their Instagram, or by reaching out to their email (depaul.tepeyac@gmail.com).
Jordan Rivers is a children’s author, creative producer, and a founder of Chicago-based non-profit Turn the Pages. Jordan Rivers has self published two books, The Village and the Spider that Grew and Grew and The Village and the Cat Hair Catastrophe with which she hopes to teach children about real world problems and offer solutions to them. She is currently adapting her books into a musical and doesn’t see herself ending the series anytime soon. Additionally, Rivers writes book reviews through Turn the Pages to help BIPOC authors get the recognition they deserve. The reviews are posted on the Turn the Pages Youtube channel and each reviewed book is paired with a matching activity that families can work on together, found on the Turn the Pages website. The Courier Thirteen Podcast with Werner Andrews is a film and television podcast made to inspire filmmakers during a pandemic that restricted their creative avenues. Andrews initially started it as a way to facilitate creative discussions with his friends, but has since grown to interviewing numerous big-name individuals from the industry. Some names include Tom DeNucci, Bob Teitel, and DePaul’s very own Scott Myers and José Soto. Some episodes discuss film theory and others discuss the journey of taking a script from the page to the big screen. The Courier Thirteen Podcast is available on Youtube and anywhere you can find podcasts. You can get in contact with Werner Andrews on his personal Instagram and his podcast Instagram.
