Dead Phones and Dogs is a modern pop-rock band from Chicago consisting of singer/songwriter Stephen James, drummer Zach Meyer, and multi instrumentalist Josh Trimble. Growing up together in Milwaukee, the dynamic trio have been together since high school.
We got to talking about their unique combination of jazz, punk, and pop influences and how each of their genres blend together to form the unique sound for Dead Phones and Dogs.
Their new single, Still Seem Blue, was written and produced during pandemic and though the melancholy lyrics talk about loss, the ultimate vibe of the song is uplifting.
Despite the sad message of their new single, the band was all smiles throughout the entire interview and had no problem roasting each other during a game of “Who’s Most Likely.”
As COVID restrictions begin to lift, Stephen and Zach plan to move to Los Angeles to get more recording done and focus on music. Josh will still be involved with the band remotely as he pursues his degree at Columbia College in Chicago. The band hopes to release a new song this year, a new EP within the next year, and eventually begin touring.
Zach perfectly summed up the band’s goals saying, “Our dreams are to go on tour and make this music our lives’ mission.
